The focus of this role is to provide Library programming in the communities of Edmonton. You will have a unique opportunity to present programs in library branches, green shacks, at playgrounds, daycares, etc. for children of all ages. You will work with a professional and supportive branch and gain experience providing circulation/customer services to EPL customers. You will build relationships in our community and represent the Library!

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present early literacy programs, children’s storytimes, puppet shows, crafts at assigned library branches and throughout the city
  • Plan and present programs for other audiences as required (e.g. Teens, Seniors, etc).
  • Assist library branch staff with Summer Reading Club programming
  • Perform customer service duties as required including: check in and sort materials; check out materials; register customers for membership, etc.
  • Provide excellent customer service in accordance with the Library’s service philosophy
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of one year and currently enrolled in related post secondary studies e.g. Library Studies (preferred), Education or Early Childhood Development

Ability to relate to customers of all ages

Ability to prepare and present programs

Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Experience working in

Customer Service Experience working with children is an asset

Related programming experience is preferred

Note: Required to travel throughout the City and to work varied hours (including evenings and weekends).

Customer Services Librarian – Adult Services

As the Customer Services Librarian - Adult Services you will be an active member of a strong branch team that provides outstanding customer service to library users and coordinated delivery of public services for adults. Collection Development Librarian - University of Regina - Regina, Saskatchewan

This is a tenure-track position reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Collection Services and Assessment. In consultation with selected library staff and library users, the incumbent will coordinate and develop strategies for the effective and efficient evaluation, selection and de-selection of information resources to meet the needs of the University of Regina academic community. The key element in this position will be the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, on committees and task groups concerned with information resources, and to participate actively in other planning associated with the effective delivery of collection development services.

Requirements: Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited program in information/library science. Minimum of three years of professional experience working in collections or acquisitions services, preferably in an academic research library. Knowledge of collection development and management strategies and familiarity with emerging trends with collection selection tools and processes.

Responsibilities:

Instruction

Information Research

Collections

Liaises with assigned schools and programs to identify their needs for Library services and resources and ensures that these needs are met as efficiently and effectively as possible within the Library’s Collection Development guidelines and procedures. Also participates as a member of the Collections team to provide a coherent, client-centered approach to collection building.

Qualifications: Master’s Degree from an accredited library school and related experience are required. Enthusiasm for teaching and enhancing user success as well as empathy in working with users of varying knowledge, skills and technical ability are essential. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, and customer service skills are required.

Practice of Professional Skills
The library follows the liaison librarian model, which includes reference, instruction, and collections responsibilities to support on-site and distributed teaching, learning and research. As part of the Health Sciences Library team, this position supports all health sciences disciplines. The components of professional practice include:

Development of the Collections
*Develop collections and information resources in the health sciences, primarily in the areas of biomedical sciences, public health, and community health and epidemiology.

Information Services
*Provide, as part of the library’s integrated reference model, reference and information services for students, faculty, researchers, and the broader community.

Teaching Information Research Skills
*Provide group and individual information research instruction, including participation in the delivery of the integrated Medical Informatics course. This may include providing library services to locations beyond the campus. Develop instructional and training materials in print, web-based, and interactive formats using e-learning technologies where appropriate.

Research and Scholarship
*Research and scholarship activity is a key component of the practice of professional skills. Librarians are expected to engage in research and scholarly work leading to the development of a formal program of research, and actively disseminate research results via peer-reviewed outlets. Administration and Public Service

Practice of Professional Skills
The incumbent in this three year assignment will be responsible for the discovery, development, and analysis of numerical and statistical data collections and services, including marketing to the broad campus community. The successful candidate will provide research and liaison support to data users across campus, including librarian and IT colleagues. Additionally, the Data Services Librarian will serve as the main contact for relevant research centers and with ICPSR and DLI initiatives, ensuring that the University Library is current and active in the data community. The individual in this position will work closely with the GIS librarian in a Data/GIS unit providing a comprehensive program of data management, support, and services.

Additional duties may be assigned in related areas and/or for identified strategic priorities.

The University Library follows the liaison librarian model, which includes reference, instruction, and collections responsibilities to support on-site and distributed teaching, learning, and research. Under this structure the Data Services Librarian will be responsible for the following:

Development of the Collections
Select, develop, and promote resources that support the provision of data discovery and access to data sets.

Information Services
Provide in-depth consultation, reference, and information services for students, faculty, and researchers in the discovery and application of data to support research and teaching activities.

Teaching Information Research Skills
Develop, promote and deliver effective data research instruction programs for groups and individuals, including library staff, in the discovery and use of data resources. Liaise with instructors to integrate data literacy into the curricula of relevant courses and develop data subsets and other teaching tools to facilitate the use of data.

Research and Scholarship
While not a requirement of this appointment, research and scholarship is recognized as practice of professional skills and may be pursued as an outcome related to the work of this position.

Administration and Public Service
It is an expectation that all Librarians participate in collegial activities appropriate to their rank, and are encouraged to engage with academic or professional organizations.

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
A Master of Library Science or equivalent degree from a university/institution recognized by the University of Saskatchewan is required. An undergraduate degree in a relevant science or social science discipline is preferred. Additional data experience or educational background in the use of data sets, applications, and software is preferred. Previous academic library experience would be an asset.


Candidates should also possess:
  • Experience using statistical software packages such as SAS or SPSS, electronic government statistics and data, and the manipulation of datasets
  • Knowledge of quantitative methods of data collection, extraction, and analysis
  • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in data services, resources, software, and other library related information technologies

Computer Network Technician - Chinook Regional Library - Swift Current, SK

Background:

The Chinook Regional Library (CRL) is seeking a Computer Network Technician to provide IT support and network administration across a regional library system of 33 branches. The successful candidate will not only have the technical skills to run a stable, secure system, but will also be able to communicate effectively with Chinook staff.

With its headquarters located in the town of Swift Current, in sunny southwestern Saskatchewan (over 2,200 hours of sun per year), the CRL serves a population of 46,249, and is poised to embark on a period of technical and service innovation. A recent infusion of cash into the province’s libraries will provide public libraries with one of the most highly rated integrated library software platforms currently available. The successful candidate will collaborate with the CRL senior management in planning for training and rollout of the new system.

The Computer Network Technician will assume a lead technical role in the upcoming migration and will be responsible for the hands-on management of all IT infrastructures and systems, both hardware and software, including Local and/or Wide area networks and IT security in the Chinook Library Region. He or she will also provide technical support to Chinook staff.

KEY DUTIES AND ROLES

The Computer Network Technician manages and maintains all IT infrastructures, both hardware and software, including Local and / or Wide area networks and IT security in the Chinook Library Region. They provide user support and instruction to all Chinook staff.

Key duties:
  • Configures and maintains the LAN server and workstations. Manages performance and maintains security of LAN.
  • Configures and maintains the regional WAN. Manages performance and maintains the security of regional WAN.
  • Manages network security. Assists ITO in conflict and problem resolution.
  • Ensures that all security, antivirus, and system updates are completed.
  • Assists with maintenance and troubleshooting of the provincial integrated library software platform.
  • On behalf of the region, liaises with Provincial Library in regards to the integrated library software platform.
  • Works with the Chinook management team to maintain and develop the regional website.
  • Researches and tests hardware. Implements new software and hardware solutions.
  • Works with the Chinook management team to develop a long term plan for IT infrastructure, equipment, and IT-related patron services.
  • Participates in ongoing staff IT training.
  • Participates in appropriate provincial or regional IT committees as assigned.
Customer service
  • Troubleshoots and provides support for 120+ public and staff workstations, related software and peripherals.
  • Provides support to all branches with regards to their computer needs.
  • May be asked to act as a relief driver, or to deliver books when travelling on IT maintenance visits.

Finance
  • In consultation with senior management, responsible for IT hardware, software and maintenance procurement.

Reporting and record-keeping
  • Responsible for the inventory of all Chinook computer hardware and software.
  • Time permitting, may be asked to prepare statistical reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Completion of Grade 12 and a graduate of an accredited computer technician / information technology program. Applicants should have a thorough understanding and experience in: LAN/WAN infrastructure and Microsoft Server technology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as, experience working in a team.
  • Valid SK drivers’ license.

Desirable:
  • Experience in the integration of network and telecommunications systems including network routers deployment, server configuration, RAID storage installation, backup system implementation, phone support and full software/hardware support.
  • Current certifications the following areas: Microsoft (MCSE or MCM), Cisco, ITIL, PMP, and ISP.

Wages and Benefits:

This is a regular full time position (37.5 hours per week)

Start wage: $18.50/hr

Moving allowance: up to $1,000, to be repaid on a prorated basis if the candidate leaves within one year of hire.

INTRODUCTION: The Library at SAIT Polytechnic located in Calgary, Alberta has one opening for Information Desk staff member, Library Technician 1, for a minimum of 14 hours per week. The shifts are: one weekend day shift (9:30 am to 5:15 pm) and one weekday evening shift (3:30 pm to 11:15 pm) from February 2010 until April 2010. The Information Desk is responsible for the delivery of library circulation and basic reference service to a wide variety of clientele including students, instructors, staff, and community borrowers. These positions will be responsible for opening and closing the library.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Use of the SIRSI automated library system to perform circulation transactions such as materials check out.

Background

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) was established in December 2003 with a national mandate to build and advance a safer health system for Canadians. It does this by fostering collaboration between governments and stakeholders, supporting the development of patient safety initiatives that will help the Canadian healthcare system become the safest in the world. An independent not-for-profit corporation, CPSI functions at arm's length from governments, system stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

The Position

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services and supporting CPSI management, board, committees and staff, in the provision of patient safety and other relevant information services, the librarian will:

1. Develop and maintain CPSI’s Library collection and programs.

o Determine and anticipate CPSI’s resource and information requirements.

o Develop and maintain CPSI Library’s physical and electronic structure and resources.

o Develop and maintain CPSI Library’s services, processes, policies and procedures.

o Monitor and assess CPSI Library and information services and resource use.

o Network with librarian colleagues and participate in library associations.

2. Research, analyze and synthesize information.

o Provide reference services for CPSI management, board, committees and staff, ranging from basic information retrieval requests to comprehensive literature searches, analysis and research.

o Complete and maintain ongoing environmental scans of patient safety literature, websites and other relevant resources.

o Contribute to writing and publishing patient safety material.

3. Perform administrative responsibilities.

o In conjunction with senior CPSI staff, establish library budget annually.

o Maintain annual library budget and expenditures.

o Manage CPSI Library and information services staff, as applicable.

o Train CPSI staff in the use of library resources, techniques and tools.

Travel within Canada and potentially internationally will occasionally be required.

Education and Experience

* This position requires a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
* Experience in, and knowledge of, health and science and medicine, including evidence based research and techniques, is preferred
* Strong technical skills (e.g. MS Office, SPSS, Excel etc.).
* Fluency in French would be an asset.

Le Poste

Endroit : Edmonton, Alberta

Relevant du directeur des services corporatifs et apportant un soutien en matière d’information sur la sécurité des patients et autres sujets pertinents aux membres de la direction, du Conseil d’administration, des comités et du personnel de l’ICSP, le bibliothécaire sera responsable des tâches suivantes :

2. Faire de la recherche, de l’analyse et de la synthèse d’information :

o Fournir des services de référence aux membres de la direction, du Conseil d’administration, des comités et du personnel de l’ICSP et répondre à des demandes allant de la simple extraction d’information à des recherches et des analyses documentaires exhaustives;

o Procéder à des analyses conjoncturelles de la documentation, des sites web et des autres ressources pertinentes concernant la sécurité des patients;

o Collaborer à la rédaction et à la publication de matériel sur la sécurité des patients.

3. S’acquitter de responsabilités administratives :

o En collaboration avec les cadres supérieurs de l’ICSP, établir le budget annuel de la bibliothèque;

o S’occuper des dépenses et du budget annuels de la bibliothèque;

o S’occuper de la gestion du personnel de la bibliothèque et des services d’information de l’ICSP, selon les besoins;

o Former le personnel et gérer les contractants chargés d’évaluations de programmes complexes;

o Offrir de la formation au personnel du l’ISCP sur la façon d’utiliser les ressources de la bibliothèque, ainsi que les techniques et les outils s’y rattachant.

Des déplacements au Canada et peut-être à l’étranger peuvent être nécessaires à l’occasion.

Études et expérience

* Diplôme de maîtrise en bibliothécomie et en sciences de l’information dont le programme est agréé par l’American Library Association.
* Expérience et connaissances dans le domaine des sciences de la santé et de la médecine, y compris en recherches et en techniques fondées sur des données probantes, sont des atouts
* Solides compétences techniques (par ex. MS Office, SPSS, Excel, etc.).
* Une bonne connaissance du français serait un atout.

Lethbridge College is seeking a full-time continuing Reference Services Librarian. This position is responsible for the management of services offered by the library information desk through collaboration with library and instructional colleagues.

Overview: Catholic Library Association seeks candidates for the position (p/t) of General Editor of Catholic Library World, the official quarterly publication of the Association. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years editorial experience with journals; dynamic interpersonal and communication skills; knowledge of the various interests of CLW's readership; strong organizational skills; the ability to work well with paid staff and volunteer committee members across the U.S., and commitment to the Mission of the Catholic Library Association.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Administer all aspects of the journal
  • Select new print and non-print media received from publishers for review
  • Solicit potential manuscripts and book reviewers
  • Evaluate all manuscript submissions and, for major articles, oversee the jury process
  • Edit entire contents of each issue
  • Send copy for each issue to designer/production editor
  • Along with editorial committee, proofread entire contents
  • Submit reports to Executive Director prior to Executive Board meetings
Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in library and/or information science, English, or related field, and a minimum of two years editorial experience. Candidate should be detail oriented; have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, style manuals, and copyright law; and possess the ability to meet deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required. Previous library experience is preferred.
