Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Librarian Tom Baker Cancer Knowledge Centre, the Holy Cross Cancer Centre Librarian is responsible for:
  • Provision of instruction, reference, literature searching and document delivery services as directed through the Tom Baker Cancer Knowledge Centre for the Holy Cross site and throughout southern Alberta

Required Qualifications:

The chosen candidate will provide reference assistance in the social sciences and humanities to undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty; instruct library users individually and in groups; provide research support in the use of data; liaise with faculty members; participate in collections development and maintenance, particularly for government publications; participate in the creation and maintenance of web based resources for research and learning; participate in departmental working groups and committees of the Libraries and of the University; contribute to librarianship and scholarship by carrying out professional research and/or scholarly work. MacEwan University Library is seeking a recent graduate from a Master of Library and Information studies program for a newly created intern position. This entry level position, based at City Centre Campus, offers a unique opportunity for a new librarian who aspires to a career in academic librarianship.

Do you have strong research skills? Are you a self-starter who can take the lead on the development of a library service which supports research and scholarly activity at MacEwan? Key responsibilities of the research librarian intern include: developing and promoting library research services which support faculty and senior level students at all four campuses; assisting faculty and senior students with the identification and dissemination of relevant information resources related to their research; providing advice and assistance with literature reviews and with numeric and data set searching; providing education and support in the use of citation management software; and assisting with the development of a framework for an institutional repository of faculty research. Summer Student Library Assistant - SAIT Library - Calgary, AB

Full Time Term Position (May 2010 – August 2010)

INTRODUCTION: The Library at SAIT Polytechnic located in Calgary, Alberta has two openings for Summer Student Library Assistant staff members for 36.25 hours per week. The shifts are alternating weeks: weekday shifts (9:15 am to 5:00 pm) and weekday shifts (10:45 am to 6:30 pm) from May 3rd 2010 until September 1 2010 (16 weeks). The Information Desk is responsible for the delivery of library circulation and basic reference service to a wide variety of clientele including students, instructors, staff, and community borrowers. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Use of the SIRSI automated library system to perform circulation transactions such as materials check out.
  • Client assistance at the Information Desk Use of the on site collections and remote information resources accessed via the Library Home Page.
  • Materials processing including serials preparation, copy cataloguing and physical processing of materials.
  • Project work including: inventory, de-selection of materials, shelf reading/back-shelving, study carrel evaluation

Summer Reading Program Coordinator - Leduc Public Library - Leduc, AB

Leduc Public Library requires a creative and enthusiastic student to organize and deliver this year’s Summer Reading Program. This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills and a passion to deliver programs that encourage children to celebrate the wonders of literacy.

This temporary full-time position runs May 17h through August 27th, 35 hours per week, and reports to the Youth Services Coordinator. The bulk of the work will take place during the day Monday through Friday however some weekend or evening shifts may be required.

Overview
Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Assistant Dean (Client Services) leads the planning, co-ordination and development of services to library clients delivered through the seven branch libraries. This is a new position, resulting from organizational restructuring at the University Library. The Assistant Dean will collaborate with diverse groups within and external to the Library. The ideal candidate will bring a successful record as a leader, manager and mentor, and will have a strong commitment to quality client services and relationship building with diverse client and stakeholder groups.

The Assistant Dean is supported by a team of branch heads who are responsible for the day-to-day operations of services delivered through branch libraries. Working in close collaboration with branch heads, the Assistant Dean ensures the soundness of library educational programs, the quality of library services to clients, and the effective management of human and physical resources assigned to the client services portfolio.

The Assistant Dean functions in a highly demanding environment that requires constant scanning for issues, challenges, and opportunities against multiple priorities and demands on limited resources. The work is of high volume and is complex. Decisions ranging from the mundane to critical are required on a routine basis.

This is a tenure-track position and as such requires active engagement in research and scholarly activities including the dissemination of research results via peer-reviewed outlets. Salary & Rank
This is a tenure track position with a five year term appointment as Assistant Dean (Client Services). The tenure track position is subject to a probationary period of three to five years. Duties for all librarians are assigned annually by the Dean, University Library. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, up to a maximum of $107,229. In addition, the term as Assistant Dean (Client Services) attracts an administrative stipend of $5,000 per annum. This appointment is anticipated to be either at the rank of Librarian III or IV, will be determined upon appointment. Librarians as faculty are members of the University of Saskatchewan Faculty Association and enjoy an excellent benefits plan, professional expense allowance, as well as research start-up support.

The Provincial Library and Literacy Office of the Ministry of Education requires a creative and goal-oriented professional librarian to manage the Library Services unit and to lead in the development of strategic directions related to province-wide resource sharing among libraries.

The successful candidate will be responsible for: supervision of 4.5 permanent staff engaged in interlibrary loans and circulation activities; working with provincial, national and international library organizations on resource sharing policies, standards and procedures; and leading the public library community in the planning and development of resource sharing services, including resource discovery, and implementation of automated solutions. South Shore beaches South Shore Public Libraries is the primary library service provider to 60,000 residents in Lunenburg and Queens Counties, Nova Scotia and takes particular pride in its responsive collections and programs. Program Coordinator - Children & Youth Services – Spruce Grove Public Library - Spruce Grove, AB

The Spruce Grove Public Library would like to hire an enthusiastic, organized, and highly motivated Program Coordinator to plan, facilitate, and evaluate a variety of summer programs for children and teens. This is a 16 week full-time (35hr/wk) position reporting to the Manager of Children & Youth Services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage weekly craft and story time programs and develop a reading program that will encourage children and teens to read during the summer.
  • Participate in school visits to promote summer library programs.
  • Collect and report statistics and ensure that program evaluations are completed.
  • Promote our new Juvenile Resource Centre.
  • Coordinate participation of teens in a summer media program.
  • Organize displays and contests.
  • Assist with planning and running special events throughout the summer.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Enrollment in a post secondary Education, Library Technician or MLIS program.
  • Creativity in the planning and delivery of developmentally appropriate programs and services for children and youth. Music, drama and/or storytelling background are desirable assets.
  • Competency with library technologies and a variety of computer software programs.

Library Technician - Medicine Hat Public Library - Medicine Hat, AB

Medicine Hat Public Library has an opening for a full time (37.5 hours/week) Library Technician in the Children’s Services Department; this position will commence in mid-June 2010.

The primary responsibilities of this position are to respond to user information needs through the use of information retrieval skills and knowledge of research tools, as well as to increase awareness and use of the library and its services. The successful applicant will be permanently assigned to the Children’s Services Department but will also staff other service points throughout the library. The Children’s Service Department provides programming for children from birth to age twelve both at the library and throughout the community including, storytimes, class visits / library tours, book talks, and other programs promoting the Library, its programs and services, literacy, and reading.

Collection Development Librarian - University of Regina - Regina, Saskatchewan

This is a tenure-track position reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Collection Services and Assessment. In consultation with selected library staff and library users, the incumbent will coordinate and develop strategies for the effective and efficient evaluation, selection and de-selection of information resources to meet the needs of the University of Regina academic community.
