Under general direction, responsible for coordinating and administrating the Help Desk area for the IT Services Division. Ensure that all incidents are recorded in the help desk system. Ensure a resolution or alternative solution is established as quickly as possible in order to restore service and minimize disruptions. Ensure that problems are escalated to relevant areas for a resolution. Monitor the effectiveness of the Incident Management Process and make recommendations and oversee improvements. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science degree in an appropriate specialty such as Computing Sciences or a related field. An equivalent combination of post secondary education from a recognized Institute of Technology and relevant work experience may be considered. Minimum of four years progressively responsible experience in systems planning development, implementation and support, including supervisory experience of technical staff. ISP Certification is desirable. In depth knowledge of Microsoft’s operating systems, development technologies and related applications is required. Familiarity with Unix, working experience with MS SQL, and programming in MS Visual are also desirables. Previous experience of working within a customer service environment along with an IT support environment is essential. Familiarity with ITIL’s Best Practice and the Fundamentals Certificate in IT Service Management is preferred. Demonstrated team leadership experience is required. Supervisory skills are an asset. Proficiency/strong working knowledge of complex networked computing environments is essential. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication (oral & written) skills are required. Effective organizational and problem solving skills. Keen analytical skills and a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and changing demands. A strong customer service orientation and the ability to lead, coach and work effectively with staff and customers alike within a dynamic environment are essential. Demonstrated ability to interpret Service Level Agreements. Demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of and appreciation for best practices in technology applications/continuous professional development is necessary. Qualifications & Requirements:

Previous academic library experience is preferred.

Proven experience with HTML, CSS, and ezproxy are required. Previous experience working with Innovative Interfaces Inc. Library System is highly desirable. Experience working with the Windows and Unix platforms on the desktop and service side would also be an asset. Project Manager - RISE - Lethbridge, AB

Project Manager
The Rural Information Services Initiative (RISE) seeks an innovative, dynamic, and highly motivated leader to take charge of its ground-breaking project in Southern Alberta.

RISE is a collaborative approach to enhancing local community services by placing Public Libraries across Southern Alberta on a videoconferencing network with use of the province’s Supernet highway. This network will be used for the provision of programs and services to be made available to any local library user and will encompass areas including distance education, training and mentoring, health services, arts and culture, and small business incubation.

A total of 79 predominantly rural and remote libraries that are members of the Chinook Arch, Marigold, and Shortgrass regional library systems will be involved in this exciting partnership.

From this initiative the project leader will gain:
Experience coordinating the technical implementation of a videoconference network (learned with the assistance of a technician also assigned to this project)
Experience at being involved in a provincial library initiative
Extensive organizational skills

Education and Experience necessary for success:
A proven track record in the area of project management
An enthusiasm for bringing enhanced and sustainable services to the residents of rural Alberta through public libraries
A well developed method of communicating, both written and oral
An ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
A talent for working well on one’s own

A valid Alberta driver’s license

Part-time Temporary Library Aid – Audio Visual Project

Job Description
As temporary library aid, the incumbent will be responsible for helping with the organization of the audio visual collection at CKUA. This organization will involve labeling audio visual reels with metadata and using the existing cataloguing system to catalogue the audio visual tapes. The audio tapes will be inventoried and then entered into our audio visual database.

The success of this project largely depends on the library aid’s attention to detail. The job requires proof-reading the entries before they are merged into the database.

The library aid will report directly to the music librarian and will assist in the training and direction of library volunteers involved in this project.

Required Skills
As mentioned above the incumbent must have a keen eye for detail and be able to adhere to the cataloguing standards of CKUA. Competency with a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer and experience with library software applications would be an asset.

The aid must be able to work well with others in supervised or unsupervised situations. In addition to being responsible, the successful candidate must possess excellent communication and people skills.

Preference will be given to applicants with a strong background or education in music and/or libraries.

Applicants must be fully mobile, as the library is located atop two flights of stairs. The job will require the applicants to use the stairs many times a day.

Other Qualifications
Ideal candidates would also have participated at CKUA as a volunteer.

This is a 16-week 30 hour per week position that pays $12.50 an hour. The term of employment will commence on May 2 and end on July 22, 2008.

Planning and organizing the Summer Reading Program by:

Functions

  3. Prepare and present early literacy storytimes e.g. Baby Laptime, Fun for Ones, at assigned library branches as required.

  5. Perform customer service duties as required including: check in and sort materials; check out materials; register customers for membership, etc.
  6. Provide excellent public relations with customers in accordance with the Library’s service philosophy.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Completion of one year of related post secondary studies e.g. library studies, Education or Early Childhood Development. Experience in working with the public and/or children. Other duties include the following: setting up displays and assisting in setup and tear down for Library programs; answering phones; operating and providing basic direction and troubleshooting of the photocopier, fax machines, printers, and audiovisual equipment; some shelving when needed; and other duties as assigned.

The primary functions of our Library Pages include the following: shelving books and other items; shelf-reading to ensure neatness, tidiness and accuracy of placement of materials on the shelves; organizing and moving donated materials; assisting in basic processing of materials; watering plants; and assisting with setup and teardown for Library programs. Other duties may include the following: answering phones and directing inquiries toward the appropriate personnel; assisting staff and patrons in finding certain materials; checking in items and other duties as assigned.


Qualifications, Education, Experience, and Salary

Public Services Assistant: The successful candidates will have excellent communication and public service skills, a positive outlook, ability to work without close supervision as well as part of a team; a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet, and basic troubleshooting skills, and knowledge of library process, policies and procedures. Completion of post-secondary training in Library or related area(s) is required. Experience working in a library environment will be a strong asset.

Start rate: $13.16 / hour with a 5% increase in 2009.

The Digital Resources Coordinator will provide leadership in ensuring that University of Winnipeg students, faculty and staff have consistent and integrated access to licensed and other appropriate online resources in a technology-intensive learning environment. The Digital Resources Coordinator is accountable for the acquisition and management of print and electronic serials, as well as the integrated development and management of all electronic resources, including e-books and document delivery, in an evolving information environment. The Librarian participates in the refinement and implementation of procedures related to licensed electronic resources procurement and management and supervises the Acquisitions Unit (4 FTE) and Interlending and Document Supply (2.5 FTE).


Position Summary:
The incumbent will:
  • Coordinate all processing activities associated with electronic resources
  • Ensure continued access to electronic resources
  • Work with faculty and Library staff to develop library electronic collections
  • Interact with consortia for the purchase of electronic resources and arrange for the local acquisition of e-resources
  • Implement new approaches in acquiring and managing print serials and electronic resources, taking advantage of emerging technologies;
  • Make effective use of the acquisitions and serials modules of the integrated library system, interlending systems (OpenILL) and of available e-resource management tools (ie. GODOT, CUFTS ERM);
  • Maintain a current awareness of the academic publishing market and environment, future trends and the needs of the scholarly community;
  • Regularly provide face-to-face and chat reference service, which may include some evening hours
  • Participate as a subject liaison librarian
  • Contribute to the Library's Web site
  • Serve as a member of the library management team, plus other assigned duties.
Qualifications / Requirements:
The successful incumbent must have:
  • An MLS, MLIS or equivalent;
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in an academic or research library or an academic library consortium;
  • Experience working with digital resource licensing and management;
  • Knowledge of the technical issues involved in the networked delivery of electronic resources and with the legal and business issues involved in acquisition, licensing and management of electronic resources;
  • Familiarity with Internet developments, electronic publishing and current library technologies such as link resolving software;
  • Excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills.

  • working knowledge of reference and public services operations;

THE POSITION
Southeast Regional Library, with headquarters in Weyburn, Saskatchewan seeks a City Librarian for their Estevan Public Library Branch. The City Librarian is responsible for the effective administration and management of the branch library in their community, acting upon the advice of the local library board and under the direction of the Branch Manager or designate. The Librarian applies professional library skills and techniques to the provision of regional reference services, local reader’s advisory work, collection development and local staff development and supervision. The Librarian promotes and coordinates library services and programmes in the local community, as well as assisting in the development and delivery of Regional programmes and initiatives. The Librarian acts as secretary to the local library board and to all committees of the local library board. The Librarian will perform public service duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Business Library, located within the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, annually serves 3000 undergraduate, masters, and PhD students, 90 faculty members, and the general public, including the corporate community.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice Provost, Libraries and Cultural Resources, the successful applicant will be responsible for:
• the overall administration and operation of the Business Library, including the supervision and leadership of a staff complement of 5.0 FTEs, including two academic staff
• the organization and evaluation of the Branch facilities, programs, and services, the formulation of goals along with the recommendation of policies to implement these goals in conjunction with the mission and values of the Haskayne School of Business
• the cultivation of close working relationships with the Haskayne School of Business administration and faculty
• the accountability for, and expenditure of, annual print and electronic collections funds, allocated by both Libraries and Cultural Resources and the Haskayne School of Business
