Experience
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Significant (3-5 years) experience in descriptive cataloguing techniques.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel.
Experience in using an integrated library system (i.e. Sydney Plus).
Experience in purchasing Library materials.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. This position has been allocated to the bargaining unit represented by the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC).
2. Willingness to undergo and successfully pass an enhanced reliability security clearance.

Challenge
Summary of Duties:

Under the general supervision of the TL, Information and Document Services, the Technical Services Specialist provides the National Energy Board with acquisition and cataloguing services. Major activities include:
- library automation applications, including acquisitions
- descriptive cataloging and classification according to the Library of Congress, coding and processing of print and audio-visual material
- resolves complex order pay and receipt problems with vendors including closing records
- maintains all acquisitions files and provides detailed monthly budget updates to Team Leader
- coordinates annual subscription review
- classifies information resources according to Library of Congress system
- processes regulatory documents and written hearing indexes
- arranges for procurement of ISBN and DSS catalogue numbers for NEB publications

Additional Requirements / Comments
  • Candidates must clearly demonstrate in their application how they meet the essential qualifications of language, education and experience.   • Salary ranges effective 1 July 2008: NEB 06 - $47,685 - $58,152 per annum
  • Assessment: Candidates may be assessed using one or more of the following tools: written examination, oral presentation, interview(s), performance appraisals, reference checks(s)
  • This position has been allocated to the bargaining unit represented by the Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada.
  • Candidates from outside the federal public service will be required to pay for their own travel.
